Essentials by Ellen: 1 Stamp, 3 Card Techniques

Mum_x3The new Essentials By Ellen release is today and I wanted to combine the Mondo Chrysanthemum with a new sentiment set from the release. I love all of the Mondo florals and this one is no exception. For the release, I wanted to do three cards with a similar design but different coloring and background techniques.

I arranged the Mum stamp in my Misti and stamped it 3 times with Versa Mark ink on GInaK Tomato Soup cardstock, and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  For the first card, I used distress oxide sprays to get the lighter fall colored layers to reveal the embossed deeper red-orange of the card stock. This is such an easy way to do an emboss resist! I then cut the background apart so I could emboss the sentiment from the new sentiment set called-That Thing You Did.  This is a great set for use with a complex or detailed background as the fonts are simple and clean and the larger greetings all pair with multiple smaller ones.

I then painted the edges with gold Finetec paint and splattered it across the other two backgrounds as well.

I have been loving coloring on colored cardstock! It cuts your coloring time in half as you already have a colored base. I did this second card with just 5 colors, I use both Prismacolors and Polychromos Pencils and I simply “Color Plucked” an orange-red, a yellow-gold and a brown for the shadows and two greens a light and a dark for the leaves, adding the darker olive green in the nooks and crannies. I used another sentiment from the That Thing You Did, set.

and embossed it in gold on Ellen’s heavyweight vellum, to match the gold watercolor paint splatters. I love how much detail you can get out of this stamp!

Mum_prismaFor my last card I took the last panel and Ink blended with distress ink in Aged Mahogany, Ground Espresso, and Black Soot, then added the gold embossed chrysanthemum on top, only attaching the vellum below the sentiment banner so no adhesive shows. I think this would also make a beautiful engagement or sympathy card, as it is elegant with the black, dark red and gold.

I am so happy with these cards and so happy to get to work with these great sentiments.

As always supplies are listed below, happy crafting!
